Merlyn D. "Jim" Cordes

Merlyn D. “Jim” Cordes, 71, passed away June 26, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. He will be deeply missed by his remaining family and friends.

Merlyn served in the United States Air Force. He was always interested in the arts. Merlyn taught professional ballroom dancing for 10-15 years. He was a licensed cosmetologist, barber and electrologist.

Merlyn was preceded in death by his mother, Sophia T. Cordes Homan and step-father, Roy P. Homan. He is survived by a lifetime friend, Tim Harper; two sisters, Linda ( Larry) Epley and Gail (Doyle) Osborn both of Polk City; aunt, Helen Bergman of Ackley; nephews, Troy (Shari) Cordes and Austin and Robbie Cordes; nieces, Monica (David) Meyer, Danielle (Mat) Bales, and Kayli and Brooklyn Bales; and his pets, Buddy and Smokey.

A graveside service will be held 1pm, Monday July 1, 2013, at Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center, Iowa. Family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 30, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines.
