Albert L. Garrison, Jr., 57, went to be with his Savior on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Iowa Methodist Hospital. A celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Corinthian Baptist Church, 814 School Street, Des Moines, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines.
Albert was born January 31, 1956 to Albert Sr. and Margaret (McCraney) Garrison in Des Moines. He graduated from North High School, Iowa State University, and earned his Juris Doctorate from Creighton University. He practiced law for over 20 years; most of those through his own firm, Garrison Law Office. Albert shared his passion for wrestling as an assistant wrestling coach at North, Urbandale, Valley, Roosevelt, and most recently at Waukee High School.
Albert is survived by his wife of 27 years, Anita; daughter, Julia Garrison; mother, Margaret Garrison; siblings, Peter, Marshall, Jinny, Allison, Sydney, Marlene, Stephen, Kelly, and Sarah; and many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

I am a good friend of Allison Garrison, and the family. Through the many stories that have been shared with me over the years of days when they were kids coming up and into recent years, I am always tickled at the events and my heart is always warmed to know the love you all shared. Albert was a great big brother.
I had the honor to participate in the Garrison Family Reunion in Atlanta, and met the family at that time. I feel a great sense of pride just knowing you all and I think you are such a beautiful family.
To Margaret Garrison, Albert's mother, you are a beautiful and kind woman and I pray that God continues to bless you, comfort you and keep you in the days and years ahead. Hold your head high and always know that you did a great job raising Albert, supporting him, and being his rock foundation throughout his life. I applaud you - job well done!

I was just told. My condolences to Mr. Garrison's family. I'm so sorry for your loss. Mr. Garrison was my lawyer for a long time. He was a wonderful person. He and his mother Margaret was always good to me and my family. He will truly be missed. I feel blessed to have know him.

I am so sorry for your loss. I think about the Garrison family all the time and did a google search today just because of all of the positive memories growing up with them in Omaha, Nebraska. My father would pick me up from their house after the school day. I am literally in tears this minute thinking that Albert has passed. So much time has passed and we all get so busy with our lives. I went to Junior High School with Anita his wife and to know they were married for 27 years is a blessing. My own parents passed away in 2002 and 2004. Please give my prayers to Mrs. Garrison, Sr. and to Mrs. Anita Garrison, Jr.

Garrison family, Albert was
truely one in a million. You all have so much to be proud of. He has left his touch on so many lives. He will always be in our hearts. I can never thank him for all he is to Ben. His entire life would have taken a different direction had it not been for Albert. Albert has left a long and lasting legacy of family and friends. I consider myselft so fortunate to call him friend. Love and prayers to you all, you are truely a wonderful family.

I am thankful to have met and trained with a person like Al (and im thankful for Anita and Julia for letting him spend 3 hours of his time with me daily!). He taught me to believe in myself and to not give up just because things are tough. He proved to me that wrestling would help you out in life a lot more than just learning how to take someone down or getting you in shape. If it wasn't for him, I honestly would have given up wrestling. He was a father figure to me just as he was to many others and even though he was really weird, he was actually a pretty cool guy once you got to know him! Al changed so many people and because of that I can truly say he will never be forgotten, He is a legend!

My son Joel has been training with Al for the last two years.
My wife suggested that I think about a frequent quote Al would say, something we might add to a wrestling bag or an item to remember him by when hes putting in the extra practice time like he did with Al.
I thought of two words that he must have heard a thousand times in those countless hours:
GO AGAIN!
Actually it would be more like: NO! LOOK! SEE THAT? GO AGAIN!
Al would get the kids to believe in themselves by making a point of telling them that he believed in them (and sometimes maybe that Chad Lowman believed in them too :) )
Al Garrison was a wrestling genius, AND he was an all-around great guy.
Al we will miss you and we will never forget you. You will always be in our corner.
