James Johnson

James Blair “JJ” Johnson, 42, passed away at his home Friday, June 21, 2013.

Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 26, 2013. Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 27. Inurnment will occur Friday, June 28, at 9:30 a.m., at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter.

James was born April 22, 1971, in Waukee, to Dr. Charles O. and Mary C. (Blair) Johnson. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1990 to 1997. Jim’s daughter, Maddilyn Grace Johnson, who was born in Okinawa, Japan, was the love of his life. Jim had many passions; among them were fishing, his house, and his antique truck and tractor, but above all, his family.

James is survived by his daughter, Maddilyn Johnson; siblings, Marie Johnson of West Des Moines, Carla Johnson of Baltimore, MD, Kurt (Joyce) Johnson of Panora, Michelle (John) McManus of Bondurant, Bob (Merry) Johnson of Earlham, Chris (Barb) Johnson of Dallas Center, Patricia (Steve) Pauly of Winterset, Joe Johnson of West Des Moines, Theresa (Ric) Cortez of Olathe, KS, and Dianne Wood of Colfax; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Charles O. and Mary C. Johnson.

Memorial contributions may be directed to family in order to provide a college fund for Maddilyn.
