Mary Ellen Powell

Mary Ellen Powell, 90, passed away June 19, 2013 at Methodist West Hospital. She was born August 16, 1922 in Spickard, Missouri to Roy and Emma May Collins. She moved to Des Moines in 1956 and retired from Principal Financial in 1987.

Mary Ellen is survived by her daughters, Roberta Powell of Des Moines and Ramona Strable of Boone; grandchildren, Dr. Robert (Megan) and Trevor Powell of Des Moines, Brian (Amy) Strable of Ankeny, IA, Msgt. Bradley (Heather) Strable of San Antonio, TX, and Mathew (Becki) Strable of Panora, IA; great-grandchildren, Asher Powell, Jenna, Langston, Landon, Ellyson, Brandon, Keegan, Andrew, Tristen, and Ashleigh Strable.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Powell; and nephew, Roger Sharp.

A funeral service will take place at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Per her wishes, Mary Ellen will be cremated and burial will take place at Salem Cemetery in Mill Grove, Missouri at a later date.
