Darrell D. LaFon passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013, at The Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, with his loving family by his side. He was born a twin on August 23, 1935, in Des Moines to Opal (Keener) and Dale LaFon.

Darrell served his country proudly in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He owned and operated Darrell’s Grease & Go for many years and made quite a name for himself with his business ideas – they were even featured on 60 minutes. He also drove for Yellow Cab, was a salesman for Kirby Vacuums, was a Union Painter – painted many downtown businesses. He was a race car fan and an antique car collector.Most of all he loved to dance and sing.

Darrell leaves behind his loving daughter, Sonya (Terry) LaFon-McNeil; grandchildren, Nikole and Allen Thomas; four nieces and three nephews; and other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; twin sister, Carol Naomi; brother, James (Barbara) LaFon and several step-siblings.

Family will greet friends from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June 17, 2013, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. A funeral service will begin at 9 a.m., and a burial will follow the service at Avon Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Darrell.

The family would like to thank family and friends for their special acts of kindness during this time. A special thank you goes out to the VA Hospital in Marshalltown for their loving care.
