Service Details

Raymond John Koontz, 93, died peacefully in the arms of his granddaughter Shannon, Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Kavanagh on 56th Hospice House. A private family service has been planned for June 12, 2013.

Raymond was born September 14, 1919, in Ames, Iowa, to Marie “Nanny” and Raymond Koontz. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He served in the MASH unit during both WWII and Korea. On December 10, 1952, Raymond married the love of his life, Frances McKeever. To this union, three children were born: Stephanie, Rebecca, and John. In their early years together, they shared many fond times in his convertibles. Ray had an affection for his vehicles, especially his convertibles.

Raymond was a very proud supporter of Barack Obama. He also was his wife’s biggest supporter throughout all of her activism. He started his working career as CEO of Color, Inc; also was President of Chamberlain Weather Stripping of Iowa, Vice President of Industrial Products Company, and retired at the age of 72 from Abild.

Raymond was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great great grandfather who will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife, Fran; his children: Stephanie Christy, Rebecca Wayman, and John Koontz; his grandchildren: Shannon (William H.) Brenton, Raymond Koontz, Luke Wayman, and Joseph Wayman; his great-grandchildren: triplets Colin, Tyler, and Alexandra, Madeline, Hailey and Elias, Vanessa, Anastasia, and Dayton; and his great-great-granddaughter Layla Jade Love.

A celebration of Ray’s life will be announced for a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the family: 9508 White Oak Lane, Johnston, Iowa 50131, in loving memory of Ray.
