Gladys Grothe

Gladys Netalia (Sellner) Grothe, of Waukee, passed away peacefully, Friday, June 7, 2013 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines with her loved ones by her side. Services will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Burial will be at a future date at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, IA. Visitation will take place on Tuesday one hour prior to the service.

Gladys was born on July 5, 1918 in Murdo, SD to Fred and Laura (Kuefner) Sellner. As a child, Gladys moved with her family to Iowa. Gladys graduated from Johnston High School in 1936 and was a member of Westchester Evangelical Free Church. Her family and friends were very important to her.

Gladys is survived by her husband of 63 years, Walter; her three children, Laura (Eric) Bistrow of Scottsdale, AZ; Jan (Chuck) Woods of Clive, IA; and Ron (Rayna) Grothe of Rochester, MN; eight grandchildren, Matthew Woods, Sara (Bistrow) Smith, Brian (Kyle Marie) Woods, Amy Woods, Elizabeth Bistrow, Ryan Grothe, Kevin Grothe, Thomas Grothe; five great-grandchildren, Eric Woods, Cole Woods, Ethan Woods, Elena Smith and Noah Woods; her brother, Wayne (Ruth) Sellner of West Des Moines; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Carolyn, Lillian, Alice and Elsie; four brothers, Pete, Harold, Walt and Albert; infant daughter, Cynthia; and grandson, Eric Paul (Jamie) Woods.
