John L. Rick, 77, passed away June 1, 2013, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. He was born on May 8, 1936, to Charles and Alma Rick in Centerville, Iowa.
John worked for Wittern Group (formally Fawn Engineering) for 40 years until his retirement in 2012. He served in the United State Marines and was a member of Am Vets Post 2.
John is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Yvonne; sons, William (Gaylene), John E. (Brenda); three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; siblings, Alberta (Sam), Lillian (David), Clara Mae, Bill (Yvonne) Fry, Portia (Bruce) Andre. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Wanda Jackson and 2 infant sisters.
Funeral services will be 11a.m., Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines, with burial at Pine Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 5, at the funeral home.

Yvonne, We are thinking of you and praying for you during this difficult time. There's lots of sensible things that we could say such as "He is not in pain anymore" or "He's in a better place" but none of that really heals your broken heart right now.
