Olive Porter

Olive Porter 85, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013, at the Rehab Center of Des Moines.

Olive was born October 13, 1927, in Des Moines, to Clarence and Eulah (Scrogins) Swartslander. She retired from Iowa Power & Light Co. in 1989, where she had worked as a payroll clerk for many years. She and her husband loved to travel, watch movies, and spent many days enjoying the Iowa State Fair. Olive was always a helpful hand, and loved her family dearly.

Olive is survived by her nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews, and a host of extended relatives and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Porter, her sister, Betty (Harry) Enos, and her brothers, Clarence “Spike” Jr. (Helen) Swartslander and Donald (Dorothy) Swartslander.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.
