Henrietta Edwards, 85, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Eagle Point Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Clinton, Iowa.
Henrietta was born May 15, 1928, in Gulfport, Mississippi, and earned her degree from Butler University. She worked for Meyer Hall for 20 years, was a quality control clerk for Pittsburg Steel, and retired from Iowa Power after 10 years of service. Henrietta was very involved in her community; she served on the board of directors at Polk County Legal Aid. She also volunteered as a legal mediator and was sent to China to assist with mediation. She was a member of First Christian Church, Older Iowans Legislation, and Polk County Association for Mental Retardation. Henrietta enjoyed collecting bells and Precious Moments. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family.
Henrietta is survived by her sons, Alfred (Sara) Edwards, Jr., William Edwards, and Tyrone Edwards; grandchildren, Erika and Collin; and many extended relatives and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Edwards, Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013, at First Christian Church, 2500 University Avenue, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
Memorial contributions may be directed to First Christian Church or the Homestead Group Home.

Al and Sara, I was so sorry to learn of your mother's passing. Even though I met your mom only a time or two while working on Jackson 88 with you, it was unmistakably clear that her family was her first priority. I just wanted to take a moment and express my condolences.

Henrietta was a champion for older Iowans, a faithful and contributing member of the Older Iowans Legislature. She will always be remembered for her advocacy, generosity of heart, and that big, beautiful smile.
We were graced with her presence and she will be missed.

We enjoyed Henrietta and Alfred very much as neighbors from 1994 to 2000 on Boston Ave. Both are missed in our hearts.

We met when our sons were receiving services from the same provider..
We worked on autism related issues together.
Henrietta was absolutely wonderful in every possible way
including the way she spoke, her words & the very sound of her beautiful voice.
God will bless her greatly for 'making a difference' in so many peoples lives. :)
Just thinking of her always makes us smile.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, including her wonderful, joyous son, Ty.

She was the last of my living aunt's, and was so very precious to me. How neat it was when I found out that she and my mother shared the same birthdates.
