Janey McCammon, 74, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa.

Janey was born to Earl E. and Sarah J. (Hyde) Baker, December 31, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa, where she lived most of her life. She was an accountant, last employed by a hospital in Austin, TX, retiring in 1998. Janey was honored with a Life Saving Award given to her by Governor Branstad. She served in the Civil Air Patrol and was a member of the Methodist Church in Pleasantville, Iowa. Janey was an avid crafter. She won several ribbons at the Iowa State Fair, including a Grand Prize. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and was a member of Knit Whits of Iowa. She also loved fishing and had planned a fishing trip for the upcoming week. Janey’s generosity was well known. She never hesitated to open her house and her heart to kids that needed a home. She was especially fond of her “kids” John Foreman, Mike Frasier and Trisha Higgins.

Janey is survived by her children, Cynthia Hentschel, Phillip (Debra) McCammon, Glen Hess, Allyssa (Cary) Juby, Fredrick Hess and Seana (Brian) Bolen; grandchildren, Dawn Hentschel, Kristofer Hentschel, Phillip (Becca) McCammon, Jennifer McCammon, Jeffrey McCammon, Brittany (Jordan) Word, Cory Juby, Ashlan Juby, Colton Juby, Fredrick Hess, Jr., Kaleigh Hess, Adrian Batye, Faith Bolen and Georgia Bolen; and great-grandchildren, Mikayla Fetters and Izabelle Hentschel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and her husband, Phillip S. McCammon.

Services will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 19. Burial will follow at Carlisle Cemetery in Carlisle, Iowa.
