Elaine Schuchard of Norwalk, Iowa, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2013, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines, after a courageous battle with cancer. Elaine Ellen was born in LeMars, Iowa, on December 27, 1960, to Berneice (Funk) and Arnold Bremer. The family later moved to Akron, Iowa.
Elaine graduated from Wayne State College. She was an accountant and worked for the Sioux City Journal, over 20 years at the DSM Register, and most recently for Marsh. She loved both interior and cake decorating. She also loved landscaping. Most of all she loved being a “soccer mom” and never missed her children’s games – or any family event.
Elaine leaves behind her loving husband of 19 years, Hal; her children, Megan and Matt; her brother, Doug (Lori) Bremer; her sister, Cheryl (Alan) Vetter; her father, Arnold (Patricia) Bremer; brother in-laws, Lon (Deb) Schuchard and and Craig (Jules) Schuchard; mother-in-law, Deloris Schuchard; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Berneice.
Family will greet friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 22 at West Des Moines United Methodist Church, 720 Grand Avenue in West Des Moines, with burial to follow at Norwalk Cemetery.

I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Elaine. She was such a wonderful woman and always had time to to say hi if we met at the soccer fields or grocery store. I will keep you all in my prayers

I was so sorry to hear of the loss of your wife and mother. Elaine was always a positive person when we worked together at the Register. While I am sure she is happy to see her mother in heaven, she will always be with you in spirit and looking down with a smile upon you. Matt, Megan and Hal, you have our deepest condolences. As our boys have grown together so has our friendship. Elaine will be remembered for her willingness and loving way of being a mother, friend and partner and it will be with tears in our eyes but, smiles on our faces that we watch your family continue to grow with her arms wrapped tightly around you from above. She is and always will be so proud of you Megan and Matt, never forget. Hal as her friends, we thank you for loving her the way you do.

Elaine was and is a true gem. A gem by definition is one that shines so bright and is one of a kind... and that describes her perfectly. I can't remember a soccer event without her and her awesome smile. My thoughts and prayers go out to Hal, Matt and Megan and may the memories of her give you peace and comfort at this most difficult time. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. She will truly be missed!

Your mom was such a wonderful lady. She will be dearly missed. I can't count the times she keep me in check on the sidelines over the years. I will never again sit at a soccer game without her spirit crossing my thoughts. Please know that if there is ever anything you guys need that I am only a few digits away. She is in the arms of the Angels; may you find some comfort here
