Service Details

The Bible says, “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”. Kenneth R. Garwick, 78, went to be in the presence of his Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 12, 2007. He had been battling with two types of cancer and suffered a major stroke in August 2006. He had been taken care of in his home, and was there when he quietly passed from this life.
Kenneth graduated from Lincoln High School and was a member of Grace Church. He retired from the US Postal Service in 1991, and then from Adesa Auto Auction in 2004.
One of his hobbies was putting together model ships, some of which were put on dsplay in a local hobby shop. He enjoyed using his carpentry skills to remodel his home. He was also an avid fan of the Lawrence Welk Show.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday July 16, 2007 at Grace Church, 4200 East 25th Street, with burial at Avon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3-8 p.m. with family present from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, 2007 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 53 years, Darlene Garwick; children, Randall (Nancy) Garwick of Altoona and Marilyn (Dan) Waugh of Altoona; son-in-law, Don (Anne) Rutenbeck of Altoona; six grandsons; five granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Betty Green and Agnes (Harold) Stewart, both of Berwick; many nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; and friends, who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Elizabeth Garwick; sister, Dorothy Logsdon; and his beloved daughter, Linda Joy Rutenbeck.
Memorial contributions may be given to Grace Church, Mercy Home Care, or Mercy Hospice.
