Margaret Nielsen

Margaret Nielsen, 86, was born March 6, 1927 in Des Moines. She passed away Sunday, May 11, 2013 at her home.

Margaret was a longtime member of Luther Memorial Church.

Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Ray Nielsen; daughter, Sherri (Randy) Stiffin of Knoxville, Tennessee; son, Steve (Terri) Nielsen of Altoona; grandchildren, Brian (Kacee) Nielsen, Beau (Stefanie) Nielsen, Tyler Nielsen, Jaime Stiffin, and Josh Stiffin; great-grandchildren, Gavvon, Mia, and Taylor Nielsen; other loving relatives; and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Pearl (Bishop) Wood.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Friday, May 17, 2013, at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the funeral, and private inurnment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Iowa Race for the Cure, PO Box 8468, Des Moines, Iowa 50301, or the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Iowa Chapter, 1730 28th Street, West Des Moines, Iowa 50266, in loving memory of Margaret.
