Roberta Leah Peters, 83, entered heaven Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Taylor Hospice house in Des Moines.
Roberta was born in Des Moines on August 25, 1929 to Marjorie (Baker) and William Johnston. She graduated from East High School and then attended Grand View College where she met her husband Richard E. Peters. Roberta worked as a teacher associate for the DMPS for 20+ years and was a 60+ year member of Union Park United Methodist church. She served God in her local congregation as well as at the state level. Roberta was always busy helping out at church, with her family or volunteering. The various organizations and groups that she lent her time, talents and abilities to are as follows: PTA, BSF, United Methodist Women, Volunteers in Mission (VIM), UPKids, Iowa Women Prisoner's, Iowa Annual Conference Ingathering, Union Park Choir, League of Women Voters, O.W.L.S., Valley View Village, Boy Scouts and Camp Fire Girls. Along with helping others she enjoyed being outside in her flower garden and there wasn’t anything she couldn’t do or fix!!
Roberta is survived by her sister Jeannine Pribble, her sister-in-law Marlene Peters, children Steve (Patti) Peters, Gary (Colleen) Peters, Lynnette (Kevin) Moore and grandchildren Joanna Peters, Alex and Liz Peters and Erik, Ellen, Monika, Jeffrey and Kiersten (Kiki) Moore. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother-in-law, Donnie Peters.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Monday, May 20, 2013 at Union Park UMC, 2305 E 12th Street, Des Moines

My deepest sympathy to Roberta's family. She had such a beautiful voice, and I loved having her and Mrs. Morris teaching the youth choir. She was a big part of my church life. RIP May God give you all strength at this time. Jean, Richard, and Julie Fagan.
