Upon retiring from the military, he opened Hibbees Lounge in Clive, and was co-owner of Pars and Cigars in West Des Moines.
John enjoyed snow skiing with the Snow Journers Ski Club. He was also an avid golfer and fisherman. John lived at 1107 Carrie Avenue, with his devoted son, Kelly and Cathy Wright. He found pleasure in spending time with family and friends, sharing his many stories. He spent many Saturday nights watching the sprint car races in Knoxville, and looked forward to annual fishing trips to Cass Lake with Kelly and their friends.
John will be remembered for his dynamic personality, his cheerful spirit, his sense of humor, and his love for people. He will be greatly missed by many.

I am out of state and cannot be there today. I am a former Crew Chief who worked in B Flight with John. We had a lot of fun and John was at the center of most of the antics. He growled constantly at us "new guys" and I know he liked it when we gave it right back to him.
I grew up and lived most of my life on the south side of Des Moines. Talking with John one day I found out he delivered papers to our house when he was young.
John had a tremendous love for all things out of doors. He was always trying to fishing rods, knives and other sporting goods to all of us Crew Chiefs. I bought a nice spinning rod from him in the '70s and still have it.
What a great guy and my sympathy goes out to the family

Kristi, Kelly and family, please know our thoughts and prayers are with you now and always. Your dad was a great man and meant alot to us. Though Aubrie only got to know him recently, she sure took to him quickly, as did I when I met him. How could any peson not take to him quickly? He was just that kind of guy!
