Loretta E. Smith

Loretta Elaine Smith, 92, passed away at her home on April 27, 2013. She was born April 11, 1921, to Jack and Hazel (Haughtelin) Wenzel, in the family’s country home on the edge of Dallas and Guthrie County. She went to a country school, and graduated from high school in Panora, Iowa.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Paula Sellman; grandchildren, Cathy Planka and Matthew (Carrie) Sellman; great-grandchildren, Sydney and Brett Planka; and step-children, Bert David Smith, Nancy Saunders, Sally Jo Johnson, Charles Smith, Mary Umbaugh, Cheryl Cartwright, Leon Smith, and Larry Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wayne; son, Gary Sellman; and two husbands.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m., Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Burial will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery.
