Gary B. Davis

Gary Davis, 72, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Bright Kavanagh House.

Gary was born February 28, 1941, in Des Moines, to Dale and Emma Davis. He graduated from Tech High and served in the U.S. Army in Germany. Gary married Christine Houston in 1965. They had two children, Melody and Danny, and he remained a devoted family man the rest of his life. Gary worked mostly in drywall construction, but was also uniquely skilled as a mechanic of just about anything, a talent he applied to his hobbies in boating and snowmobiling. At once a perfectionist with a strong work ethic and scientific bent of mind, he was also a compassionate man, quick with hugs for his children and grandchildren, and ever willing to give advice and to share his wisdom and encyclopedic knowledge. He enjoyed traveling, counting as the best of times the trips he took with his family to Colorado, where they gold-panned, and to Hawaii, where they explored the islands’ unique geology and took trips on submarines.

Gary is survived by his loving wife, Christine, of 47 years; his two children, Melody Bowen of Des Moines and Dan (Rennie) Davis of Decorah; four grandchildren (Nicholas Hill, Larissa Walker, Madeleine Davis, and Kie Davis) and four great-grandchildren (Evan Hill, Jayce Hill, Brody Walker, and Laila Walker).

A private family burial will take place at Oak Wood Cemetery on May 17, 2013.
