Leona Mae Lowe

Leona Mae Lowe, 92, passed away at her home Friday, April 26, 2013.

Leona was born October 10, 1920, in Des Moines, to Carl and Rebecca Kurschinski. She retired from the Iowa Department of Agriculture in 1983 after 17 years of service as a lab technician. Leona was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She loved the Iowa State Fair and went every year for 87 years.

Leona is survived by her son, John (Judy) Lowe; daughters, Sharon Jones and Carolyn Tucker; sister, Clara Clark; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and her cousin, Frank Child. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wesley Lowe; son, Dennis Edward Lowe; grandson, David Jones; granddaughter, Dianne Lynn; and a great-grandson, Adam.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Iowa State Fair in loving memory of Leona.
