Rev. Dr. George H. Mullins, 77, passed away April 23, 2013, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois. He was born October 15, 1935, in Des Moines, to Oral and Velma Mullins. He was united in marriage to Millie Shepherd on November 10, 1956.

George graduated with his Bachelor’s degree from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri, earned his Master of Divinity from Christian Theological Seminary in Indianapolis, Indiana, and his PhD in Theology from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. As an ordained minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), he served churches in Indiana, Virginia, New York, Iowa, Michigan, North Carolina, Nebraska, and Missouri. He even served as a missionary in China and Honduras. He returned home and devoted time to teaching the English language to Chinese immigrants in Des Moines.

In his spare time, George learned how to play guitar, violin, and bagpipes. He was a gunsmith, and enjoyed woodworking, sailing, singing, photography, creating stained glass, playing chess, and traveling all over the world with Millie. He also enjoyed his hobby of being a ham radio operator and was known by many for his call sign of NØVHE.

George was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Joe. He is survived by his wife, Millie; son, Dan (Nancy) Mullins; daughter, Deborah Rooney; grandchildren, Nicholas, Nakota, Summer, Brooke, Trinity, Kyra, and Alexis; and numerous other relatives and friends.

A visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m., on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Capitol Hill Christian Church, 3322 E 25th Street in Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may go to the Pension Fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with checks made to Capitol Hill Christian Church.
