Joan M. Pedersen, 71, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2013 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines surrounded by friends and family. She was born December 26, 1941 to Albert and Charollet Ziegler in Clinton, Iowa.
Joan worked at Grandview College for many years and retired from the US Postal Service.
Joan had a passion for studying and teaching others about the Bible and was a member of Grandview Park Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was eager to spend tender moments with her family that gave her fond memories to share with others. Joan also enjoyed traveling and tending to her garden.
Joan is survived by her children, Brent (Tania) Pedersen, Paul Pedersen, and Janna Pedersen; grandchildren, Mishaela and Elianna; sister, Ellen (Gerry) Conner; brother, Darrell (Catalina) Ziegler; and a host of other family and beloved friends.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2013 at Grandview Park Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 4425 NE 46th Avenue in Des Moines.
Many thanks to all of her spiritual family who have extended their love and support.
The family would also like to express a sincere thank you to all the staff at Iowa Health Home Care (Unity Point Hospice) for all their kindness, support, compassion, and care.

Does anybody know Mishaela Pedersen? She used to go Albia Iowa. We were grade school best friends. I have been looking for her for a long time. She didn't tell me where she was moving too. She moved away in 3rd grade.

We will all miss Joan very much, but we know she is no longer suffering and she is now safe in Jehovah's memory. She truly was a wonderful sister and I don't think she realized how encouraging she was to all of us who had the privilege of getting to know her. We eagerly look forward to seeing her in the new system. Janna, Brent & Tania, Mishaela & Elianna you will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. Love, Michelle and Mylisa.

Joan was an amazing sister,and she will be missed by all those who knew her. Even during her darkest hours she was still a source of encouragement, comfort and an example of faith in Jehovah. She will not be forgotten by us or her Heavenly Father who keeps the memory of her safe. Love to all of her family and dear friends.

We are so sorry for your temporary loss. We did not have the privilege of knowing Joan well, but what brief time we spent with her, we knew she was very special.
