William Van Arsdol

William L. Van Arsdol, 69, passed away Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the Iowa Veteran’s Home in Marshalltown.

William was born May 5, 1943, in Dunlap, Iowa, to William and Frances Van Arsdol. He served in the U.S. Marines from 1960 to 1964. William worked in the meat packing industry in Kansas, Missouri, and New York. He retired from Mid Central Plastics in West Des Moines in 2006, and moved to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. William enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards, and NASCAR races. He enjoyed all sports, but was an avid Pittsburg Steelers and Iowa Cubs fan.

William is survived by his sisters, Patricia Miller, Donna (George) Klabunde, Rita Newman, and Gerri Mason; nieces Deana (Larry) Boatwright, Teresa (Jim) Viggers, Tina (Kurt) Groesbeck, Jill (Josh) Buhrows, LeFran Newman, and Shannon (Anthony) Thede; nephews, John (Terri) Miller, Theodore Newman, Curt (Sherri) Rosener, and Tod Mason; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and his many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 17, 2013, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. Burial will take place 12:30 p.m., Friday, April, 19, 2013, at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.
