Edward Joseph Simon, 86, passed away Friday, April 12, 2013 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.
He was born January 23, 1927, in Des Moines, the tenth child of Lebanese immigrants Charles and Ida Simon. He was a 1945 graduate of Dowling High School, attended Drake University, and served in the National Guard. In November 1948 he married Beverly Ann Robison of Van Meter.
Eddie retired from John Hancock Financial Services, where he’d been a manager for many years.
He was a lifelong parishioner of Visitation Catholic Church, and served as a trustee, president of the parish council and the Visitation Grade School parents association. Eddie was a member of the Riverfront YMCA for 68 years, and an avid handball player for many of those years. He was also active in the Young Phoenician Club of Des Moines.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly, daughter Julie Therese and son Samuel Edward. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Elizabeth, an infant son, his parents, five brothers and four sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Link Associates or Animal Lifeline of Iowa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 16, at Visitation Catholic Church, 1271 E. 9th St. followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday with the Rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.

Bev, Julie, and Sam,
I'm so sorry to hear about Ed. He was such a kind, wonderful man, full of spunk and humor. I especially remember the fun times shared with my parents, and Ed always being the last one to leave the Lebanese picnics. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

I grew up in Eddie's neighborhood and knew him well.
He set a great example for all of us kids and was highly respected by all our friends.
Have not seen him in recent years but always thought so much of him.

So Sorry Sam! I always enjoyed running into Eddie in the locker room. "Whata Tan!" He was always so positive and a class act. And being able to maintain that level in my presence is saying something. I will miss him greatly and know we are all thinking of you.

I smile when I think of all the times I would walk in the locker room at the Y and there would be your Dad, grinning ear to ear, always something funny to say. He was a great guy and he will surely be missed by all. My deepest sympathies.
