Dale Patch

Dale Patrick Patch, 62, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, in Vero Beach, FL. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 17, from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, April 18, at 12:00 noon. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

Dale was born on October 5, 1950, to Edmond “John” and Dorothy (Caffrey) Patch, in Des Moines, IA. He graduated from Dowling High School and attended Simpson and Drake. He joined the Des Moines Police Academy in 1972, and held every rank as an officer until retirement as Chief in 2007. Dale served in various organizations over the years, as a member of the Iowa National Guard, President of the Iowa State Police Association, Iowa Police Chief’s Association, and DM Police Burial Association. He also dedicated his time to help craft child abuse legislation. In his spare time, Dale enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; children, Julie, Kate, and Ryan (Kara) Patch; his mother, Dorothy; grandchildren, Vivian, Adele, Ken, and John; brothers, Brian (Ellen) and James (Mary) Patch; sisters, Janet Adams, Nancy (Dan) Bainter, and Teresa (Mike) Bruno; and many other family members and friends. Dale was preceded in death by his father, Edmond “John” Patch; his sister, Mary Patch; and his brother, John Patch.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Dale Patch Memorial Trust Fund at Des Moines Police Officers Credit Union, 423 E. Court, Des Moines, IA 50309. Funds will be distributed to the Iowa Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics and a scholarship fund.
