Marvin, 73, died Thursday, April 11, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born November 5, 1939, in Chariton, Iowa, to Wendell and Dorothy (Mauk) Skinner.

Marvin attended Lucas High School in Lucas, Iowa, and graduated from Northwest Missouri State University, then later earned his Masters Degree at Drake University. In 1962, he began teaching at Mormon Trail Community School, Garden Grove, Iowa. Marvin began teaching and coaching in 1965 at Bondurant-Farrar Community Schools and retired after 25 years of service as the Elementary School Principal in 1997. Most recently, he enjoyed driving cars for Enterprise Rentals. He was very family oriented, enjoyed traveling, golfing, reading, and watching college basketball, NASCAR, and the Hawkeyes. Marvin was a 50-year member of Paul Revere Masonic Lodge, Lucas, Iowa.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Shelby, of 51 years; son, Kevin (Stephanie) Skinner; grandson, Archer James Skinner; father, Wendell Skinner; sister, Mary Jo Gibbs (Michael); nephew and niece, Scott Gibbs and Amy (Brad) Keeling, and their three children; aunt, Geraldine Allen; brother-in-law, Harry (Sue) Watson; sister-in-law, Virginia Watson; and his granddog, Willie. Marvin was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy, and his brother-in-law, Ron Watson.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. Friends may visit with family for visitation from 3 to 8 p.m., with a Masonic Service at 8:00 p.m., on Friday, April 19, 2013, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Animal Rescue League of Iowa, Altoona or Bondurant Christian Church, or the charity of one’s choice, in loving memory of Marvin.
