Service Details

Marlene Naylor, 95, died July 9, 2007 at Trinity Center at Luther Park. Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July, 14, 2007 at the Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.
Marlene was born in 1912 in Marion County, Iowa the daughter of Walter and Jennie (Smith) Maddy. She was raised on the family farm on Long Lane and was a member of the nearby Olive Chapel Methodist Church. At age six she taught herself to play the piano and after having only one formal lesson, entertained herself, her extended family, many friends and fellow Trinity Center residents until the last several years of her long life. Marlene graduated from Knoxville High School in 1929. She lived her entire adult life in Des Moines, taking a job at Solar Aircraft and later working at Iowa State Bank. Marlene was a member of Eastern Star and First Methodist Church in Des Moines for many years.
Marlene is survived by her many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her three husbands, Carl Amos, Harold Hoover and Harold Naylor; four brothers, Harold, Howard, Gordon and Marvin; and four sisters, Cleo Dooley, Maxine Zoutte, Wanda Snyder Olmutz and Wilma Poague Condra.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Olive Chapel Methodist Church in Marlene’s memory.
