Arthur C. Lubbert, 55, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center.
Arthur was born May 12, 1957 in Des Moines and graduated from Hoover High School in 1975. He attended Drake University and graduated from UNI in 1980. Arthur had been a bus driver for Des Moines Public Schools since 2005 and previously did simulcasting at Prairie Meadows during race season. Prior to that, he worked for KDSM for 17 years and for IRIS.
Arthur was a wonderful son and called his mother everyday. He enjoyed boating, game night, diverse music and driving fast. He loved socializing and Sunday nights at B-Bops to get his $1 burger and chocolate shake. Arthur was a firm believer in “coupon clipping” and had a very dry sense of humor. He was an avid Hawkeye fan.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving spouse, Marty Murray-Lubbert; mother, Margaret Lubbert; and a host of extended relatives and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Lubbert.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Dr. Dan Buroker and his staff at John Stoddard Cancer Center.
The family will greet friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, April 14, 2013 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St.

Marty, I was so saddened to read about Art's passing. Even though we haven't kept in touch these past few years, I've thought of you both often and fondly. Please accept my condolences on your loss. Marty, we are so honored to have been Art's neighbor and friend. He was truly a gift in our lives as well as in the lives of many, many others. We had a lot of good times together and he always made us laugh. We celebrate his life and walk with his spirit every day. We love you, Marty, and are here for you. Take care and God Bless.

Dear Family of Art Lubbert,
On behalf of my family, you all are in our thoughts and prayers. I worked with Art with his bus driving time and on behalf of my sons, he drove their I.H.S.S.A (Iowa High School Speech Association) group to Ames and had a wonderful time with lots and laughter and even ending up turning around in a Barilla Parking Lot near to Ames. It was a great time had by all! He will be greatly missed!
Thank you for blessing not only my family, but the many students that he helped safely get from one school to another or home to school, etc.

I had the opportunity to work with Art for a few years a number of years back at FOX. I remember he was the first person I met there too and I am thankful for all of his help. I remember his sense of humour was not only entertaining, but made one think too. My most sincere condolences to his family.

You dont know me but i wanted you to know you are in my familys thoughts and prayers at the passing of youre hero my husband died in december the same way driving a bus full of college students from grinnell he also was able to pull the bus over and save many lives they will always be our hereos he was also 55 i can feel youre pain at this horrific time my thoughts and prayers are with you and youre family as you go through this difficult time
