Service Details
William James Crawford, 76, passed away on April 8, 2013, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2013, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, with a memorial service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 12, 2013, at 10:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1627 Grand Avenue in West Des Moines, IA. Burial will be at Boonville Cemetery.
Bill was born on March 29, 1937, in Des Moines, IA, to James and Margaret (Couch) Crawford. He graduated from Drake University in 1962 and from the University of Wisconsin with a Master’s in Banking in 1977. Bill worked a lifetime career in the finance industry, retiring from Liberty Leasing. He was a member of Drake University Fifty Year Club, Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and served on the Alumni Board for 30 years. He was an avid fan of model trains and enjoyed working on his train village, working in the yard – especially collecting rocks and landscaping – and decorating for Christmas.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Ann; sons, Christopher (Nan) Crawford and Craig Crawford; daughter, Caron (Scott) McCallister; 16 grandchildren; sisters, Donna and Mary Ann; his Aunt Helen and Uncle Carl Favre; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Byron and Connie Johnson. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Nancy.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Above and Beyond Cancer Million Dollar Marathon or to Sigma Phi Epsilon.

We are so very sorry to hear about Bill's passing. We have so many great memories of all the fun times we had with you and the Spencers while our kids were growing up. Bill was a good guy and will be missed by many. May the memories you all hold so dear in your hearts of him bring a smile to your faces when you think of him. Bill was a calming and inspirational force in the finance industry. His opinion and guidance were always welcome.
When I saw Bill walk into the bank, and if I got to talk to him, I knew I would always learn something.

Mary Ann, I'm so sorry for you and the kids. What I remember most about Bill over the years was how his conversations were always about you and the kids. He loved you all so dearly. We lost one of the good guys.
