Kent Cherry

Kent Cherry, beloved husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away April 6, 2013. Kent was a lifelong southsider, born May 24, 1956, to Edward and Coralie Cherry. Kent graduated from Lincoln High School. He enjoyed camping, hunting, boating at Lake Rathbun, trips to Florida, and most of all loved spending time with his family. Kent had a huge heart, always lending a helping hand. Kent worked at M.D. Eggers Construction with his lifelong friend, Mark Eggers. His many skills ranged from being a boat mechanic to a pilot and a computer whiz. Kent was proud to be an Eagle Scout and a former member of the Civil Air Patrol.

Kent is survived by loving wife, Julie; daughters, Allison (Brent Olsen) Cherry and Andrea Cherry; grandchildren, Madison Cherry and Ryne Olsen; mother, Coralie Cherry; brothers, Scyler (Joan), Craig (Marsha), and Aaron (Jen); sisters, Marcia (Dr. Bernie Heilicser), Sheila (Steve Van Wyk), and Lisa (Gary Oja); many nieces and nephews; and his loving pets, Dodger and Piper. Kent was preceded in death by his father, Edward Cherry, and both sets of grandparents.

A Celebration of Kent’s life will be held 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church, 6205 SW 9th Street. A visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scouts of America, Hospice of Central Iowa, or Fort Des Moines United Methodist Church.
