John Franklin Van Scoyk, 88, was born August 3, 1924, in Sandyville, Iowa, the son of John E. and Anna (Kirkpatrick) Van Scoyk. He passed away Sunday, March 31, 2013, at the Carlisle Care Center.
Frank was an Army veteran of World War II. He retired from John Deere after 28 years of faithful service dedicated to the Publications department.
Frank is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Jean Van Scoyk; sons, Chris (Gail) Van Scoyk and Mike (Keli) Van Scoyk; two grandchildren; and his sister, Mary Beth (Gerald) Conklin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Brian Van Scoyk.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, with burial to follow at the Altoona Cemetery.

I'm sorry to hear of the passing of your parents, I didn't know them well but had met them at their home in Altoona the few times I was able to visit in my childhood. I knew Brian from a summer art class at the school close by and he befriended this geeky little 11-12 year old me. My memories were very fond the way he got me to overcome my fear of horses as I had been trampled by one as a kid. He and I enjoyed riding you guys very tame and friendly horse. In mid 1971 before I moved to Texas, I was devastated to find my friend had been taken by the accident. We had talked on the phone several times but only got to visit in person when my grandfather came to town as my grandmother didn;'t drive. I hope this isn't too much from the past but just wanted to let you know someone still thinks of him, your family(and his horse)
