Nonna Ortiz, 63, passed away at her home Tuesday, March 26, 2013.
Nonna was born December 8, 1949, in Des Moines, to August and Louise Andre. She retired from Heather Manor where she had worked as a CNA. Prior to that, she worked at Smitty’s SuperValu. Nonna was a “self proclaimed” interior decorator, and a member of the Animal Humane Society. She enjoyed cooking and gardening, but above all, she loved spending time with her family and her little dog, Joker.
Nonna is survived by the love of her life and companion, John Eubanks; son, Tony (close friend, Janice Barber) Ortiz; grandchildren, Alexis, Andréa, and Aaron Ortiz, and Alex Bass; brothers, Alan and Joe Andre; sister, Alana Aziz; step-children, Eric Eubanks, Christopher Eubanks, Teresa White, Ricky Eubanks, Yvonne Eubanks, Donnie Eubanks, Andre Kapayou, and Shálon Kapayou; and a host of other extended relatives and beloved friends.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m., Tuesday April 2, 2013, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

Nonna will be truly missed. She is one of those people who showed love and respect to anyone she came in contact with. I thought she would be around forever. That thinking makes it hard to let go. Our condolences to the family.

Nonna was my next door neighbor at River Hills several years ago. She was a great friend to myself and my mom and godmother to one of my daughters. I had lost touch with her over the years but always remembered her with much love. I was deeply saddened to hear of her passing. Heaven has another Angel to watch down on us. Love and prayers to Tony and her family.

There is no hurt that God can not heal, No sorrow that he can not remove. Though your heart is heavy right now in due season the burden will get lighter. The loss will never be forgotten. My heart aches right now because of the absences of Nonna's presence. Yet I know God always knows what's best in every situation. To Tony, Pop's and all the kids. I love you and she will never be forgotten in my heart. Though I can not see her I know she is still there. I am praying for you and God's constant dwelling in your lives. God Bless You!!
