Larry Gene Miner, 59, died March 26, 2013, at his home in Altoona. He was born in Knoxville, Iowa, and spent much of his younger life in Des Moines, before moving to Altoona with his wife and children. Larry worked hard throughout his lifetime, establishing an owner-operator trucking business.

Larry will always be remembered for his off-handed humor, compassion, work ethic, wisdom and generosity. He enjoyed spending time with his family, riding motorcycles, and traveling. His family remembers his determination in embarking on many home projects, where they served as his “trusty assistants.”

Larry was born August 29, 1953, to Wanda and Howard Miner. Larry has been a resident of Altoona for the past 25 years. He was a wonderful husband and father. Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Laura Kay Miner; son, John (Jennifer) Miner and daughter, Jennifer (Steve) Havemann; grandchildren, Natalie, and a second grandchild due in May, Miner; his mother, Wanda Miner; his siblings, Kenny (Diane) Miner, Judy Grylls, Betty (Dave) Steigleder, and Raymond Miner. Larry also leaves behind many wonderful friends.

Mourners can give condolences to the family at the visitation on Thursday, March 28, 2013, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW in Altoona. A memorial service will be held at the same location on Friday at noon, with a public burial to follow at Altoona Cemetery.
