Marlin Dean Salyers, 71, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Dean was born June 2, 1941 in Winfield, Iowa to Ethel Mae (Kimmey) and Isaac Newton Salyers. After 40 years, Dean went back and received his GED. He was a professional truck driver for 3M. After retiring from 3M, Dean then went on to be a truck and RV safety instructor for DMACC. He competed several times and took 1st place once in the Iowa Motor Truck Association Rodeo.

Dean was a co-founder and past President of IA Heartland Chevys. He owned, restored and showed several 1st place Impalas. Dean was a member of various local and national Chevrolet clubs.

Dean is survived by his wife of 43 years, Hazel;

Kimberly Mauro – Daughter, Shanna Long – Granddaughter, Devin Long – Great Grandson, Sean Long – Great Grandson, Landen Long – Great Grandson, Travis Marcum – Grandson, Bobbi Marcum – Grandson, Maleigha Marcum – Great Granddaughter.

Karla Genovese – Daughter, Jami Genovese – Granddaughter, Joseph Cason – Grandson, Jean (Bob) Nichols – Granddaughter, Ethan Mauro – Great Grandson,
Drew Nichols – Great Grandson.

Services will be held 9 a.m., Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, also at the funeral home. Private burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
