Lucy Russo, 70, died Friday, March 22, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
Lucy was born June 29, 1942, in Monreale on the northern shore of Sicily, Italy, to Orsolina and Jack Carra. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. Lucy loved being with her grandkids and family. She was a very loving and giving person, and will always be remembered as putting others before herself.
Lucy is survived by her husband of over 45 years, Jack; her children, Joseph (fiancée, Marjorie), Patricia (Mark) Hornback, Tony, Mike, and John (Danielle) Russo; three grandchildren, Kayla Hornback, and Luciano and Milana Russo; and three brothers, Frank, Jack, and Joe Carra.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Anthony, Pete, and Phil Carra.
Services will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street, Des Moines. There will be a visitation from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery.

Please accept my deepest sympathies for the loss of Mrs. Russo. She was always such a great lady full of smiles and positivity. I can see her smiling face sitting at her kitchen table. Most of my teenage memories include the entire Russo clan. Mrs. Russo was loved and will be missed.

Patty you and your family have my deepest condolences. Growing up your parents house was my second home. I always enjoyed visiting with your mom and her cooking was nothing but Italian at its finest! She always was so welcoming and had her motherly advice she would share. I remember she loved her little dog Max but more so you and your brothers and Jack. I love you guys and will miss her dearly.
