Virginia Dyer

Virginia Dyer, 94, passed away March 14, 2013 at Mill Pond in Ankeny. She was born on January 25, 1919 in Colfax, Iowa, to Howard and Myra Cross.

Virginia was an active member of Highland Park Christian Church for 71 years, serving as a deaconess for much of that time. She was also a member of the Iowa Polka Club, Friendship Force and Stewardess Club. In her earlier years, Virginia was a 4-H and Campfire leader. She enjoyed dancing and traveling, but above all else, Virginia loved spending time with her friends and family.

Virginia is survived by her children, Sue Nystrom, John (Barbra) Nystrom, and Jeanie Shipman; grandchildren, Linda Trout, Gary Trout, Scott Smith, Bradley Smith, Andrew Nystrom and Angela Smith; 13 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dean Nystrom; second husband, Harold “Bud” Dyer; parents and 3 sisters, Leota, Mildred and Norma.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Highland Park Christian Church, 4260 NW 6th Drive in Des Moines, with funeral services beginning at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at Chapel Hill Cemetery following the funeral service.
