Service Details
Sharon Lee Batye, 74, of Ankeny died due to complications of diabetes Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, March 15, 2013, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, with visitation for an hour prior to the service. Private family burial will be held at a later date.
Sharon was born September 27, 1938, in Orient, Iowa, to George and Virginia Power. She was a resident of the Des Moines area for most of her life. Sharon retired from Employers Mutual Insurance Co. after many years of service as an accounting clerk.
Sharon is survived by her sons, Donald Batye of Ankeny and Jondi Batye of Herndon, VA; daughters, Renee Oliphant of Roanoke, VA, and Robyn Huxford of Ankeny; brother, Kevin Power of Des Moines; sisters, Sandra Menter of Phoenix, AZ, and Pamela Humble of DeMott, IN; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Sterling Batye; and son, Ronald Batye.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Sharon.

I was fortunate to work with Sharon at EMC Insurance Companies. She was a dedicated, hardworking employee in the Premium Accounting Unit in the Des Moines Branch.

Dear Batye family,
My condolences to your family. Life never prepares us for such loss. The Bible promises that God will soon swallow up the sting of death forever! It also states that Jehovah God will wipe out all tears from our eyes and death will be no more. Rev. 21:3,4. I hope these thoughts bring you some comfort during this difficult time.
