Michael E. “Dr. J” Johnson, 63, departed from this earthly realm on March 5, 2013. He was born February 22, 1950, in St. Louis, MO, to Emmett E. Johnson and Lorraine Weinman. Being the passionate scientist that he was, per his request, his body was donated to science at his alma mater, the University of Missouri, where he earned his Ph.D. in Veterinary Microbiology.
Mike devoted his entire career to a broad spectrum of animal care and research, specializing in vaccinations and medicines for the animal pharmaceutical industry, specifically feline, canine, swine, cattle, horses, and fish.
Everyone loved Dr. J for his wit, sense of humor, intelligence, acceptance, and tolerance for people from all walks of life. He loved animals, nature, Texas and Florida beach life, and most of all movies and music. Dr. J possessed an immense amount of knowledge regarding current events, history and politics. He was a mentor to many and deeply loved by his family and friends.
Mike is survived by his devoted wife, Bridgette, and his loving stepson, Brandon Boyd of Urbandale, IA, and many other extended family members and friends across the country. He was preceded in death by his father Emmett, mother Lorraine, brother Kirk, and his loving grandparents, Emmett and Pearl Johnson of St. Louis, MO.

It is with great sadness, I have found out my oldest cousin has passed away. For some reason as a little girl he always seemed to be a hero in my eyes. I had not seen him since his grandfather Gus Weinman passed in 1981. It brings me great joy to know he had a very loving life,as well great sadness to learn of his passing.

Oddly, all morning my mind was filled with memories of Michael, thoughts that made me smile and laugh out loud. He was once my closest companion. Those smiles turned to great sadness when I read of his passing in the Mizzou Alumni Magazine this afternoon. My deepest condolences to Bridget and to all who were fortunate enough to know and love this kind-hearted man.

I am so sorry to find out that my brother Michael has passed away. We had not been close for years, but he was still my brother and I loved him. He can now be with Kirk and Dad. I want to thank his wife for being there for him.
We had a crazy childhood, 5 brothers and myself. It was his, hers, and ours type family. Even though theres been distance , I still thought about Mike alot.
I was shocked when I went on the internet to look up something about our Dad and found out about Michael.
Very sad.

I remember Michael when he was a teenager. He lived with his Dad and Mary Baker in Arnold Missouri. I was a close friend to the family. I knew his brother Kirk as well. Michael was always very nice to me and I remember his great smile and laughter. We have not met since his Father's funeral but have always had great memories. I'm so glad he was so loved and successful in his life and career. I'm am sorry for his families loss.
