Wilma Young

Wilma Elizabeth (Copeland) Young, 98, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at her home. The family will greet friends from 11 AM to 12 PM Thursday, July 12, 2007 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Graveside inurnment will follow at 12:30 PM at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
Wilma was born June 7, 1909 to Bruce and Artie (Ewing) Copeland in Des Moines. She was a proud graduate of East High School, and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Wilma retired from Northwestern Bell as an operator and clerk in 1972 after 40 years of faithful service.

Wilma is survived by her daughters, Karen Cooke of Fountain, Colorado and Janet Woodmansee-Soroka of Des Moines; grandchildren, Marty Soroka and Mike Soroka of Des Moines, Wendy Jackson of Winterset and Paul Cooke of Fountain, Colorado; great-grandchildren, Sabrina Cooke, Kyle Jackson, Bailey Jackson and Michael Soroka, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack Young; her granddaughter, Vickie Ann Cooke; her parents; sisters, Camille Lane, Alice Fillmore, Elaine Whitaker and Ruth Cline; and brothers, Guy, Francis and Clyde Copeland.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League.
