Service Details

Ruth E. Lounsbury peacefully passed into eternity to be with her Lord and Savior on February 27, 2013. Services will be held on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA. Family will greet friends on Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. also at the funeral home.

Ruth was born on October 2, 1921 in Warren County, Iowa and was raised on the family farm. Her parents were Lee and Elizabeth Perry; she had an older sister Mary Ellen, a younger brother Ralph and a younger sister Virginia, all have preceded her in death. As a child Ruth rode her pony to a rural Warren County school. From her youth she was gifted with a beautiful lyric soprano voice and was often asked to sing at many church and community events.

She graduated from Indianola High School in 1939 as a National Merit Scholar and was also presented with a scholarship to Simpson College. She then completed Normal School Training and taught in several “one room” rural Warren County Schools.

In 1945 she was joined in marriage to Perry William Lounsbury an active duty member of the Army Air Corp. To this union six children were born. She was a very involved parent in their children’s school activities, PTA, and Scouts. She and her husband regularly attended and raised their family in a non-denominational Christian Fellowship. She was a co-founder with her husband of Lounsbury Landscaping, and she did the public relations and office work from the family home.

She was widowed in February 1986, but continued to participate in Christian Woman’s Club attending and hosting Fellowship Bible Coffees in her home. She loved to travel, and enjoyed attending the many school and sporting events of her ten grandchildren.

Ruth had 90 wonderful healthy, active years of life which touched and blessed many. She will be missed by all who knew her caring and thoughtful ways.

She is survived by her six children, daughters: Rebecca, Vivian, and Carol Beth; sons: Perry Wesley (DeeDee), Andy (Brenda), and Ben (Jean); her ten grandchildren: Andrew, Hannah, Jessie, Shelby, Chaney, Natalie, William, Lauren, Lee and Luke.

A Special Thanks to Mercy Hospice in Johnston for their excellent compassionate care during her last days spent on this earth!

Memorial contributions may be directed toward the Commerce Community Church for the Bell Tower Fund.
