February 23, 2013
Louise Winona Gordon, 81, beloved wife, mother and friend, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2013. She was born in Prussia Township in Adair County, Iowa, on August 21, 1931, to Mark Jared and Grace Esther Soderberg Welker.
She was preceded in death last year by her husband of 53 years, Bill. She was also predeceased by her sister Mary Ida and her brother Clifford. She is survived by her sister Charyl Rojas of Austin, TX; five children, Mark (Connie) of Des Moines, Mary Doty (Tom) of Bowling Green, KY, Harold (Heidi) of Pine Bluff, AR, Linda Estes of Knoxville, TN, and Robert (Lyndsay) of Des Moines; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nephews and nieces.
She was a devout Christian who belonged to the Grandview Church of Christ, and a nurse who enjoyed advocating for her fellow residents at the Valley View retirement village. True to her farming background, she was a naturalist with a penchant for growing African violets. She loved to socialize, travel, and play games. Her family asks that any donations be made in Louise’s honor to the Grandview Church of Christ Blanket Fund.

Louise was a classmate of mine at Iowa Methodist. She was always kind and sweet. I last saw her about a year ago at one of the nurses luncheons At that time she told me she had been diagnosed with breat cancer. I did not realize she had gotten worse. She was always so proud of her family and had pictures to show us when we got to gether. I am sorry you have lost your mom and grandmother. A candle will be lighted in her honor at the Nurses banquet in June.
Sincerely, Glenys
