Service Details

Mabel B. Coyle Nicolino passed away in her sleep on July 1, 2007. Services will be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church at 10 am, Saturday, July 7. Visitation will be on
Friday, July 6 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm with Rosary at 7:00 pm at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home 5400 S.W. 9th St.
Mabel was born on a farm in Ottosen, Iowa December 13, 1925. She graduated from Des Moines Township Rolfe Iowa High School in 1943. That same year she came to Des Moines and attended the American Institute of Business.
Mabel was a secretary at the Des Moines Ordinance Plant and John Deere Des Moines Works. She retired from the Des Moines School District working at McKinley Elementary School over 25 years. Mabel was co-owner with husband Sam and bookkeeper of the family business, Sanico Ornamental Iron Works, until Sam’s death in 1988.
Mabel was active at St. Anthony’s Church, a member of the Altar and Rosary
Society, member of the Bellizzi MacRae American Legion Auxiliary and the McKinley Neighborhood Association. She was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital, for Polk County,
St.Anthony’s Church and had been a Boy and Girl Scout leader for many years.
Mabel loved to read, travel, bake, garden, quilt, watch her grandchildren in athletic sports and school performances, as well as clean house. Her homemade pies and pastries were loved by all.
Mabel is survivived by sons - Sam (Kathryn), Tim (Kathy) and daughter - Gina (Patrick) Nicolino Gavin. Five grandsons: Brian, Ryan, Andrew, Nick and John Franklin. Four granddaughters: Nicole (Fiance’ Vuong Nguyen), Jamie, Erica and Sammantha; One brother John Coyle of Inver Grove Hts., MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam, Parents, John and Mary Coyle and sister, Patricia Johnson. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony’s Church or Hospice of Central Iowa. Our Mom, Grandma and beloved Mabel B. will be forever loved and greatly missed.
