Service Details

Barbara Jean Maxwell-Croy passed into the House of our Lord on Saturday, February 9, 2013. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA 50266. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Interment will be at Old Memorial Cemetery in New Market, IA (near Clarinda).

Barbara was born October 27, 1943 to James and Ruby Maxwell of Clarinda, IA. She attended school and graduated from Clarinda High. After graduation, she attended and graduated from the School of Beauty in Des Moines, IA as a licensed beautician.

On August 1, 1965 Barbara entered into marriage with David M. Croy of Shenandoah, IA and moved to Topeka, KS where David completed his tour of duty with the U.S. Air Force. The couple made their home later in Shenandoah where David eventually accepted a position with AVCO Finance. Barbara was always ready to move, as they spent time in Cherokee, IA, Beatrice, NE, Marshall, MO, and Sioux City over the years. David and Barbara then settled on a farm in Waverly, and she loved her animals. The next move was to Muscatine, IA where David was with Central State Bank and Barbara stayed home with their two boys, Chris and John. She loved being a mom. After ten years of being home with her boys, Barbara then joined Martin Luther Home doing occupational therapy and job placement. David and Barbara eventually settled in Urbandale, IA where they have resided for over 30 years. Barbara was a customer service representative with Wells Fargo for 15 years and retired in 2003.

Barbara was of the First Christian faith and baptized in Clarinda, IA in the same church she was married.

Throughout life, Barbara was a caretaker, concerned for the well being of her family and friends. She never met a stranger. She was admired, respected, and loved by all.

Barbara is survived by her husband, David M. of Urbandale, IA; son, Christopher, his wife Tari, and their daughter Alexis from Johnston, IA. Barbara’s son, John (who is now deceased) was blessed with a daughter, Barbara’s granddaughter Camryn. She so loved her family and cherished being with the granddaughters, Camryn and Alexis. Barbara would also want to mention her best friend forever from school who was so dear to her, Leanna Barnes-Ohnmacht and her husband, Dennis; dear friends, Pat and Lyle Farguhar of Platte City, MO and their son Scott and daughter LeaAnn, John and Kathy Whitehill of Lincoln, NE, Mary and Dan Rude of Ankeny, IA, Linda and Sandra Lautzenhiser, John and Julie Bramble, Lisa and Roger Miller and their three daughters, Gary and Maureen Campin of Clarinda, IA; her sister, Beverly Bramble of Clarinda, IA; her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and all of her friends; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mike and Marlyn Croy of Camdenton, MO, Janet Croy of Kansas City, MO, and Gloria Croy of Los Altos, CA.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ruby Maxwell; brothers-in-law, Richard Bramble and Roger F. Croy; mother-in-law, Ruby L. Crane; and her so loved son, John James Croy who she missed ever so dearly who left us four years ago.
