Danny Lee Wood, Sr.

Danny Lee Wood, Sr.,72, passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital.

Danny was born August 28, 1940 to Clyde and Ada Wood in Des Moines. He worked in construction for most of his life, spending 18 years of those with Local Union 177. Danny will always be remembered for his love of fishing.

Danny is survived by his sons, Danny Wood, Jr. and Jeff Wood; siblings, Robert (Su) Copeland, Carol Cavanaugh, and Shirley (Richard) Grissom; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Randy Wood; brothers, Harold Day, Clyde Copeland I, and Clifford Wood; and sister, Dorothy Wellborn.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Destiny Wood

Danny Wood was my grandfather. I am the daughter of Jeff Wood. My father misses him dearly, he wrote a song about Danny and the good man he was throughout his life. I remember my grandfather giving Kristopher, Steven, Hanna, and I a dollar for every frog we caught. Maybe thats why were so competetive. :)) He was a good grandfather, and a good man. He will forever be remembered in our hearts.

My sympathy to the Wood family over the loss of Danny.

I talked with his son Jeff today and Jeff told me some memories. He mentioned fishing, getting caught in a hail storm and taking cover under a bridge. He said that Danny took him to the Fair Grounds where he learned to drive. He also let him behind the wheel when Jeff couldn't see over the steering wheel. He mentioned playing in a field with his Tonka Truck when he was very young. Both Danny Jr. and Jeff are saddened over their father's death.
