Robert Condon

Robert Gerald Condon, Jr., 67, passed away February 8, 2013. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.

Robert was born on October 25, 1945 in Hackensack, NJ. The family moved to Muncie, IN where Robert attended Muncie Central High School. He joined the Navy at age 17 and he met his high school sweetheart, Joyce Wormer. They were married and moved to California. They spent 22 years living across the US in the various locations that Robert was stationed. Robert completed three tours of Vietnam in a special squadron called the Ghost Squadron, a special force assembled between two divisions of the military. He was part of the VO67 Squadron and was an Ordinance for P3 sub chasers.

After retirement from the military in Jacksonville, FL Robert was offered a position in Des Moines; the couple was on the move again but put down roots in Iowa. Robert retired from his employer Kemin Industries 6 years ago.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joyce; children, Jerry Lee Condon, Robert (Sandra) Condon, and Joy (Christopher) Ray; grandchildren, Brandon Condon, Hunter Condon, Megan Ray, Tyler Condon, Taylor Condon, Jacob Ray and Nicholas Ray.
