Service Details

Anita Larson, 82, died Thursday, February 7, 2013. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at Christ the King Catholic Church with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Monday, February 11th at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.

Anita was born November 18, 1930 in Bouton, Iowa to Louise and Detlaf “Chick” Hensen. She worked as a secretary for Farmland Insurance for 22 years, retiring in 1992. Anita was a member of Christ the King Church, Christ the King Altar and Rosary, Mercy Hospital Guild and Bishop Drumm Guild. Among Anita’s many hobbies, she enjoyed sewing, square dancing, knitting, cross-stitching and reading. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.


Anita is survived by her children: Chris (Allan) Kloess of Grand Prairie, TX; Terri (Bill) Wightkin of Scottsdale, AZ; Cathy (Harold) Carney of Des Moines, IA; Robert (Diane) Larson of Colfax, IA; her ten grandchildren: John (Kerry) Kirkle, III of Des Moines, IA; Brian (Alicia) Kirkle of Bondurant, IA: Ron (Kortnie) Carney of Des Moines, IA; Nick (Jennifer) Carney of Waukee, IA; Ellie (Ryan) Mueller of Manville, IL; Amanda (Jason) Brown of Peoria, IL; Nick (Fernanda) Wightkin of Los Angeles, CA; Sam (Sarah) Wightkin of Woodridge, IL; Emmie (Harrison) Swift of Kailua, HI; and Mitch Larson of Pella, IA; her eight great grandchildren: Lauren Kirkle, Lacie Kirkle, McKenzie Carney,Logan Carney,Rylee Carney,Caleb Strege,Nicholas Carney, Jr., Norah Wightkin and Samuel Kirkle; and her sister, Dorothy Johnson of Des Moines, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Larson, Sr.; her brother, LaVerne Hensen; her sister, Lois McVicker; and her son-in-law, John Kirkle, Jr.
