Jim Strable, 60, died February 5, 2013, at the University of Kansas Hospital due to respiratory failure.

Jim was born December 21, 1952, in Des Moines, to Harrison and Connie Strable. He was a great cook, and owned and operated restaurants and bars throughout Iowa: Jimbob’s in Montezuma, Jimbob’s Restaurant & Lounge in Huxley, and Happy Days Diner in Boone. He also had a concession stand that he traveled with to Iowa fairs and festivals. Most recently, he was working at the Walmart in Ankeny where he had been employed for the past 12 years. Jim was the life of the party and loved to sing and dance. He also enjoyed camping, boating, watching his family race stock cars, and playing with his grandsons.

Jim is survived by his wife of 34 years, Cathy Strable; daughter, Erin (Alex Harkleroad) Strable; beloved grandsons, Apolo and Orion Harkleroad; mother, Connie Storms; siblings, Harrison (Loni), Jack (Sue), and John Strable; and a host of other extended relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Harrison; sister, Janice; and his brother, Jerry.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, February 11, 2013, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, followed by burial at Blair Chapel Cemetery in Madison County. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, and 12 to 1 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.
