Barbara A. Rouw, 83, passed away on Tuesday, February 5, 2013. She was born August 29, 1929, in Des Moines, Iowa.
She graduated from East High School in 1947, and married Raymond J. Rouw on June 20, 1952. She worked for many years at Younkers before retiring in 1992.
Barb enjoyed life and had many interests. She attended East High alumni luncheons, enjoyed fellowship with a group of friends every Thursday for many years, and loved volunteering in the church nursery with Ray. Barb had a vast collection of teddy bears and stamps. She made amazing, funny birthday cards that her family and friends were able to enjoy.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Ray; her daughter, Marcia (Duane) Foster; son, Mark (Rita) Rouw; as well as her grandchildren, Caleb and Rebekah Foster. She was preceded in death by her sister, Phyllis Weik; her father, Robert Brightman; mother, Mabel Brightman; and her step-mother, Maurine Brightman.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday, February 11, 2013, at Union Park United Methodist Church, 2305 E. 12th Street in Des Moines, with cremation to follow. The family will greet friends Sunday evening from 4 to 6 p.m., at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the nursery at Union Park United Methodist Church in loving memory of Barbara.

Dear Uncle Ray,
I was so sorry to hear from my mother about Aunt Barb's passing. She was truly one of my favorite people. She would write me the sweetest letters and I would always call her instead of writing. She would laugh and make me feel like it had just been yesterday that we'd last spoken.
Have faith in God's promise of a resurrection and know that she is suffering no more. We WILL see her again... young and in good health once more. (Revelation 21:3,4)

Family of Barbara Rouw -
May there be comfort in knowing friends are here for you and they share your sorrow. So many times when you and my mother were seen together thought you were sisters because you really looked alike, maybe now the both of you are having lunch in heaven together again. I was so sorry to hear the sad news. I will cherish so many wonderful memories like enjoying her puppet on a stick when Lindsay and I were little, her wonderful homemade cards and sending me such amazing stamps and our shared appreciation of Elvis. She will be missed.
