Jean “Jeannie” May, 47, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2013, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Jeannie was born February 26, 1965, at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan, the daughter of Raymond J. May, deceased, and Ruth A. Butcher.

Jeannie grew up in Chula Vista, California, and Lemon Grove, California. She later moved with her family to Mimbres, New Mexico, in 1978. Jeannie attended high school at Sandia View Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and graduated in 1983. After graduation she returned to California and attended Loma Linda University, and graduated in 1985 with her nursing degree. Jeannie worked in California for the next 15 years as a Registered Nurse. In 2000 she moved to Iowa, and worked for Iowa Lutheran Hospital for the next 14 years. She worked 29 years as a Registered Nurse, always giving comfort and care to those who needed her. She worked many hard, long hours in the ER, but always doing what she loved most, helping others. She will be greatly missed by the many co-workers and friends she made at Iowa Lutheran ER.

Jeannie was married to Rebecca Seymour on September 5, 2009, in Casey, Iowa, and later moved to Des Moines.

Jeannie was preceded in death by her father, Raymond J. May. She is survived by her wife, Rebecca Seymour of Des Moines; mother, Ruth Butcher and step-father, Doyle Butcher of Leon, Iowa; siblings, Marcia (Michael) Black of Eagleville, Missouri; brother, Ray (Devora) May of Lemon Grove, California; Kathleen (Terry) Woods of Sanderson, Texas; nephew, Jason Allison of Marysville, Montana; niece, Michelle (Mike) Rheuport of Leon, Iowa; great-nieces and great-nephews, Cody, Colton, and Maddison Richardson, and Allison and Emma Rheuport all of Leon, Iowa; aunts and uncles, Judy and Dick Schmidt of California; Dale Steck of Hail, Michigan, Jackie Steck of California, and Wilma and Fred May of Lake Roberts, New Mexico; and numerous cousins and friends, all who loved her and will miss her more than we can express in words.

Family and friends will have a celebration of Jeannie’s life on Saturday, February 9, 2013, at 12 p.m., at the Windsor Heights Lutheran Church, 1240 66th Street in Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
