Eric F. Horlyk, 59, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.
Eric was born June 18, 1953 in Sioux City, Iowa to Emil and Eiko Horlyk. He graduated from ISU with a degree in engineering. He was a member of the Structural Engineers Association of Iowa and a delegate to the NCSEA. Eric served in the U.S. Army, the U.S. Naval Reserves, and was a Master Chief in the Seabees. Eric owned and operated Advanced Engineering. He was a Past Master in the Masonic Lodge. Eric enjoyed Sunday’s with his wife Dianne and spending time with his dogs Winnie and LuLu.
Eric is survived by his wife, Dianne and their son, Samuel. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Per his request, his body has been cremated and no services are planned at this time.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League.

Obviously, I don't contact Eric often, but when I do he always remembered me and was so gracious to help. He was such an efficient and helpful engineer, that will truly be missed. My sincere condolences.

Hi Dianne,
We just found out about Eric's passing. We are very sad for your loss and we will keep you and your family in our thoughts and prayers. Eric always came up with a solution to any structural challenge we asked him to complete. It was a pleasure to be able to meet and work with him. We will miss him dearly.

Eric was always a pleasure to work with and fun to be around. His good nature and helpful attitude will be what I remember him for. I am deeply sorry for this loss to his family, friends and profession.

I had the pleasure of working with Eric for 25 years on numerous construction projects. My field of work is lessened by his loss. He was truly one of the greatest and most "common sense" logical engineers I have ever delt with, and a great person with a awesome personality. His mark is on much of the work I have done. I will miss him.

I am a Realtor who called on Eric for several structural reports in the past few years. He was always prompt, professional and also fun to talk to. I am sorry for this loss to his family and his profession and all who knew him.

Hadn't seen Eric in years. We we're in the Seabees together. Always enjoyed working and visiting with him both in the Navy and his private practice in WDM.
He was always so busy in his business he rarely had time to visit. He was alway there to help and support us when needed though. Please wish his family well in this difficult time.

Quite shocked to hear the passing of Eric. He was a good man and really took care of needs from borrowers and their loans with me.
He was pleasant, expedient and will truly be missed. May he rest in eternal peace.

I, too, was shocked by the passing of Eric. I worked with him on many projects over the years. The engineering profession and the state of Iowa will truly miss him. I am very sorry to here that Eric passed away. I had just sent him some information on the Seabee Retired Unit so we could keep in touch. I worked with Eric over the years and it was always a great experience. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. I know he will be deeply missed.
