Howard J. Porter, 68, died Friday, January 25, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. He was born November 9, 1944, to Howard and Helen Porter. Howard worked in transportation his whole life. He was an avid gun collector and also loved collecting bumper stickers. Howard enjoyed reading a good old western novel. He served two tours of Duty in Vietnam. A private burial of cremated remains will take place at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in the spring.
Howard is survived by his step-mother, Irene Porter, brother, Alan (Theresa) Porter, and niece, Megan Porter. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Janet Porter.
Bring your best stories and pictures of Howard to share at his Life Celebration get together at Sambetti’s, 1430 2nd Avenue, Des Moines, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 13, 2013.

Howard was one of a kind. He always had a big smile and a Hug. He will be missed, but his spirit will forever reamin with all who had the priviledge to know him. God Bless and Keep You.

Howard was a very kind person. In years past my husband John and I would run in to him at Chuck's and we would visit. I also saw him this past summer at Village Inn and we visited over breakfast. He will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers to the family.

Howard was a good friend. Once he became your friend you could count on him to remain so. He was always involved with the Reunions because he enjoyed his friends and classmates so much. May God bless Howard and the many people he touched in the time he was with us.

I hadnt seen Howard for many years. Years ago he was a patron of my mothers establishment EVYs Lounge here in DSM. He would come in with all the bus drivers after work . He was not only one of the nicest men ive ever known but truly one of the funniest. I will never ever forget all the fun memories. Blessings to his close friends and familys. He will be missed.

Howard was a classmate of ours at North High School. He was a great guy who had a smile for all he met. We have many fond memories of times shared long ago. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Howard was always the friendliest person when we would run into him at Chuck's. He would always compliment me on my "beautiful" hair. I will never forget him for that.
